travel adapters
 

i have gone through 3 different travel adapters already. i had one from the states and i bought two here in the uk, but each one has burned out. i have even bought higher voltages each time. i know some people use the same one throughout their entire trip. i have only been here for one month. does anybody have any advice or could tell me what i am doing wrong?

I assume you are talking about a converter not an adapter(adapts plug end to fit in wall). What appliances are you using? I've had good results with a high/low converter, but only used it for minutes at a time. This is the model I have. http://www.franzus.com/page/FOS/PROD...V/TSM-1875CK-1

Are you sure you need one? Most computers, Ipods, and battery chargers are dual voltage. Look on your appliances and see what they are rated. It should be on the brick part of each appliance. If it says 110-230, then you don't need a converter, just a plug adapter. My daughter just returned from 5 months in Spain and didn't need converters for her laptop or digital camera battery charger.

If your devices are dual voltage (<i>e.g.</i> 100-240VAC), then you need a <b>plug adapter</b>.

For a single-voltage camera, computer, or iPOD, you want a <b>transformer</b>, not a <b>converter</b>.

If you plug electronics into a converter, it will burn out the electronics, the converter, or both.
