Travel accesories?..where to buy?
 

We are going on a trip back East and I want to buy things we will use for Europe...like pillows for the airline, money belts, travel umbrellas...etc.

Is there a favorite site you use to buy? or should I just go to Target or a travel store?

I am ordering a couple of travel pillows and a small bag to hold my passport, etc.

I'm all for saving money on shipping and on goods, but companies like Magellan are specialists, and they WILL have items that you never thought of (and may or may not need)
Check out their offerings first, then see if you can do better on price
I will say (and I am only a customer) that they are incredibly service-oriented, and they will advise you over the phone if you're not sure about something

I have read that there are some of those blow-up pillows that are better than others....!! So maybe I should check Magellens first or if anyone here has a brand name, I would love it.

I agree with the poster about Target, Wal-Mart, and, if you have one, K-Mart. This gives you an opportunity to examine what you think you might need, before you buy it. Even department stores have misc. travel items in their luggage departments.

I recently (on the spur of the moment, seeing a "SALE" in an airport) bought a small "cushy" pillow, which I used then and on a later trip to Italy. As you may (or may not)know many airlines are not providing pillows for short and w/in the Continental US flights, anymore. So a pillow which is easy to take along, might become a necessity.

You might also check with your Travel Agent. Mine is w/Carlson-Wagonlit and they have a display of travel-related items in their office. mhm

About the pillows...most are inexpensive (went online). But Eagle Creek has one that looks bigger..double the money. Any opinions?

I have the Eagle Creek "Comfort Travel Pillow." It is bigger than some of the other pillows out there - it's well constructed, and is made of good quality material.

I think it's more expensive because of its "effortless inflation." The packaging states "Gently blow a few puffs into the valve to inflate. It's self-sealing - nothing to close. Easy deflation - just press the button. Perfect for travel - pillow folds into own pocket when deflated."

It's true that it's very easy to inflate/deflate. No fussing with that plastic tab that lets out half the air before you're able to close it.

It's not the most compact pillow you ever saw, but I am pleased with it. I think we bought it at the Container Store.

Try looking in a luggage store, travel store or as mentioned Target, Walmart, KMart.

I don't know which pillow you are looking at.. but we just buy "travel" pillows at Walmart, 2/$5 - they're not inflatable, just 'child-size' pillows, small enough to carry on and actually feel under your head - cheap enough to ditch if you're done with them. We actually squished them into our bags and used as extras in a couple of hotels one trip...ditched one then the other as we piled up cookies and stuff!

I have bought items from Magellian (hair dryer) and Rick Steves website is great as well.

your local American Automobile Association (AAA) office, if it has a full scale travel agency (not all do) will stock a nice selection of travel items as well, and the prices are good.

Eagle Creek items are top notch and can be found at most luggage stores as well some department stores. The discount stores also carry a pretty good selection. Nothing wrong with the mail order places, except for the shipping charges to get it to you and then, if you don't like it, the charges to return it, meaning that you spend several dollars and have nothing in the end.....

I bought a travel neck pillow at Brookstone's. It's filled with microbeads. Many imitations out there, but the one I purchased at Brookstone's is superior. Won't travel without it. I attach it to the outside of my bag (looping hook) so it doesn't take up precious inside room. Not had an airline question it as additional luggage or carry-on, and I fly a lot. I think it was $25.

I second what luvtotravel had to say. I also bought the Brookstone pillow and nothing compares to it. There are cheaper imitations but this one is far superior. It was well worth the $25.

Also, I found a small (but larger than airline sized) toss pillow at Ikea for 99 cents, it's the perfect size to fold up and put in a carry-on bag :)

Fun stuff for travel also can be purchased for what I thought reasonable prices at your local "camping" or sporting goods store..Sports Authority? Dick's Sporting Goods?

Your local AAA store also carries money belts, passport holders etc..
