Dave
“Beach vacation rental in summer in the Carolinas, TBD, at behest of our daughters.”

Look at Edisto Island, midway between Charleston and Beaufort so you can easily get to both, old world charm and great nature. There are some very good house rentals.

January 2018- ten days in Maui with an Australian friend was bliss. Snorkelling, body surfing, soaking up the sun, cocktails, food...always love Maui. The perfect winter getaway spot for me.

June- my husband and I did a Baltic cruise with another couple with a few days in Copenhagen at the start and Stockholm at the end. Plus husband and I had a couple of very nice days in Mainz, Germany at the end to break up our journey home. (flying out of Frankfurt)
The cruise was on Oceania (very nice indeed) and although cruising is not our preferred way to travel this offered us a look at many places with a view to returning to those we really liked. Leaving from Copenhagen we stopped at Rostock/Warnenmunde in Germany-enjoyed this, Rostock was having a summer festival with beer, sausage, music-really fun, plus there is an amazing cathedral there with a beautiful organ which was played at noon-sorry name escapes me.

We also stopped in Klaipeda, Lithuania-rather grim and seemed to still be recovering from Soviet years. Riga, Latvia was a delight, would return to spend more time.
Helsinki- enjoyed and would like to return. St. Petersburg-did a 3 day tour with a Russian company, very enjoyable and interesting but 3 days was probably enough for me. Tallinn, Estonia- attractive old city but a victim of it's success like so many places, overwhelmed with people and not our favourite. Stockholm and Copenhagen we loved and want to return to for sure.

August/September - Vancouver island to visit family.

November- New York for American Thanksgiving with friends.

2019- My husband is about to set off on a 4 month cycling trip through 10 African countries starting in Cairo and ending in Capetown. This is his main bucket list item so I'm excited for him. He will be sleeping in a tent most nights and cycling about 130kms per day. The logistics and meals are taken care of by the tour organizers but he will be responsible for setting up and taking down his tent etc. The company is out of Toronto: tdaglobalcycling.com The tour is called Tour d'Afrique, it used to be a race but they stopped that. I have not decided yet whether to join him at the end in Capetown for a bit of a holiday, there are mixed reports of how people feel after this tour, some find it very hard to then go off to nice hotels etc and enjoy a holiday.

July-the most exciting thing for us- our son's wedding in New York.

August- I was meant to be joining a friend in a house in France she has house swapped for but with the wedding and all probably postponing to next year.

The rest of the year to be decided but a trip to Maui might be in the offing for a winter break.

MH did a tour across Canada with some outfit...it took three months .In the beginning he found it tough, but continued and loved it by the end. He said that the composition of the group was very important because of the time spend together and the support provided to one another.
Africa seem much harder undertaking. Good luck to him
and congtars on the wadding.

Your husband's cycling trip across Canada sounds like it would have been an interesting one danon, thanks for sharing and the well wishes for the trip and the wedding.
I think it will be interesting to see what the dynamics of my husband's group end up being. The ages range from late 20s to late 60s, men and women but mostly men.

Update: I returned home yesterday (most of me, anyway) from an eventful, week-long, all-inclusive trip to Cleveland. Don't hold your breath waiting for a trip report.
Travel plans for the future are hopeful now. Big motivator is the prospect of once again being able to sample pintxos and cider in Basque country, and paellas 🥘 in Valencia.
Thanks for all your good wishes!
