trastevere...where to eat?
 

only three nights in Rome. staying in Trastevere so will eat in that area at night. any suggestions?

My husband and I stayed in Trastavere, too, and ate dinner one night at da Lucia on Viccolo Mattanato. It's a bit of a workout to find it, since it's on the smallest little alleyway tucked in behind the church of St. Maria in Trastavere. Worth it though! The food is wonderful. We had a carafe of red house wine, a bottle of water, flavorful bread that worked our jaws overtime (crusty ain't the word), mixed vegetables (grilled eggplant, white beans, zucchini and roasted red pepper), pasta with Parmesan, veal stew with peas, and roasted rabbit with rosemary. The entire bill came to under 50€ for the both of us.

Try Il Ciak for grilled meats. They have other things, but grilled meat is what I remember. that and grappa and limoncello bottles placed on the table after dinner.

I believe another poster has eaten there more recently and mentioned it on his/her/their blog.

Osteria Olinda (sp.?), I think for traditional, excellent pasta in a basic setting.

Enjoy. I'll be there in May and hope to revisit these two AND make some new discoveries.

La Scala but I can't remember where it is located exactly. 5 of us ate there recently and had the following: one plate of mixed bruschetta, appetizer plate of ham, salami, proscuitto (God, I can't spell), olives, and two different cheeses, two plates of veal in lemon sauce, side dish of roasted potatoes with artichokes, one dish of past arrabiatta, one dish of pasta carbonara, one dish of past with artichokes, 2 bottles of water, one chocolate mousse, two tiramisu and two panna cotta. Cost 104euros. No wine that night but we did have one bellini, one pina colada and one strawberry margharita (what heathens!) Everything was wonderful including the service and sitting on the heated terrace.

Oh I forgot, we also had one side dish of sauteed spinach in butter!

thank you ladies...i think i will just bring copies of your posts and hand them to the waiters and ask them to "give me what she had!" i am going now in search of a muffaletta for lunch.
