Trastavere Restaurant Recommendations, Please

Hi Folks,

I'm going to Rome this weekend to visit my boyfriend who moved over there a few months ago for work. He's not done a good deal of exploring the fine dining in Trastavere, which is where he lives and he wants to take me to a nice restaurant on Saturday night in his area so that we're not dealing with buses or trying to find taxis getting around town.

He'll eat anything but I don't eat fish; I love wine and will eat anything else. I'd like a place where we can dress up a little and have a nice ambience. He's happy to spend money on a nice dinner but I don't think we need to go bank-breaking nuts.

Any recommendations?

I suggest you buy David Downie's new book on Rome food and wine. It's absolutely up to the minute, authentic, budget friendly and not about tickling tourists with cliche ideas about Roman food or customs.

You can pick it up in New York through Little Book Press.

Also, you need to know that it is "TrastEvere" -- which is long-ago way of saying it is the part of Rime "across (tras) the Tiber (tevere) river. And don't worry: Romans are not big fish eaters.

We had a thread a year or so ago about Trastevere restaurants. I'll see if I can locate it. In the mean time, you can use this link to search the type of restaurant and type of food. Just scroll down after making a type selection and there will be an area to select food type with everything from kosher to fish.
