Erik, look at this for a start: http://www.visitbelgium.com/beer.htm

From my experience of Trappist beers, forget the visit bit because you probably won't be able to remember it anyway. More importantly you will need somewhere to sit or lie down afterwards. They are not weak.

We are currently researching similar things for our trip to Belgium this summer. Recently I have been reading about the town of Rochfort (I think that is the spelling - it is in the Ardennes south east of Namur), which is known for its Trappist beer brewing monestary - St. Remy. Apparently you can't tour the brewery, but can visit the chappel and there are many places in town to sample the brew. They've also got a cave near town, a castle, and some nice walking paths. My husband and I are considering that town as a day trip from Brussels.

I will be in Brussels and Bruges in May.
Does anyone know of a Belgium Beer that is GF (gluten free) ie.
no wheat, barley, or rye??
In the USA Anheiszer Busch (inbev now) brews a GF beer - Redbridge
that is fomented with sourgum. I would LOVE to enjoy a beer
along with my husband when in Belgium, but I need GF.
It would be a shame to have to drink wine in Belgium!
Thanks,
Mary Ann

nannibray, brouwerij Huyghe brews Glutaner, a gluten free beer. How available it is I couldn't say. My son's MIL orders hers on the internet.

Check out the link below:

www.europeanbeerguide.net/index.htm

Click on Belgium (on the right), and then "Belgian Brewery Guide".

I believe there are a couple of Trappist Breweries listed, as well as many other pubs/breweries you might be interested in.

Have fun drinking your way through Belgium.

Robyn :)>-
