Do you wear "formal evening gowns" to weddings?

Wear something else you can more easily pack. No way in the world are you going to want to have to schlep that around on public transporation for 2 1/2 weeks. I know, having just returned from my son's wedding in Lithuania after which we did the usual assortment of flights, trains, dragging things up and down hotel stairs etc.

I know all weddings, families & venues are different, and perhaps you are attending a super fancy affair. At our wedding, the mother of the bride, the godmother (who had a part in the wedding) & 1 guest had long formal gowns on. The other women all wore nice street-length dresses for summer.

I had struggled for a long time as to what to wear for the wedding because I was both the mother of the groom and travelling a lot and a long way. Practicality finally won out for me and I went with an easily packable, fairly non-wrinkling evening blouse & skirt combo. Take my word for it, you will not want to have to spend 2 1/2 weeks dragging along an extra suitcase or a garment bag or going with an extra large suitcase just so you can protect your dress.

At most weddings I've been to only the bride & bridesmaids wore "evening" gowns, everyone else (on the female side) wore good quality daywear.

But if you really do need an evening gown why don't you just courier it to where the wedding is

crissy's wedding dress was gorgeous, so rolling evidently works.
