Transportation to Naples

Trying to figure out the scheduling for bus, train, plane. Staying in Positano and will be flying out of Naples at 10:20am. Would anyone know how early the bus schedule runs getting from Positano to Sorrento where we then catch a train into Naples. Also, is there a direct train to and from Naples Airport going to Sorrento? -thanks!

There's no train to Naples airport from anywhere.

There are direct buses (www.curreriviaggi.it) between Sorrento and the airport, which you can catch by getting a bus from Positano (http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campan...ADROXIV.pdf)if the timetables match up.

Since the earliest Positano-Sorrento bus (0700) doesn't arrive at Sorento till 8ish and the Sorrento-Naples train takes an hour, you might well have little alternative to taking a taxi the whole way.

FYI - Naples taxis are set fees to many places so that will give you an idea of what the price should be from Positano.

It may be cheaper/easier to rent a car the day before (pick up in Sorrento or Salerno) and turn it in at the airport if your hotel has any parking.

You've a check-in time, presumably, of around 9AM ?

No obvious solution to that entirely by public transport at present, and - to judge from the 2009 version - even on their high-season schedules SITA may well offer nothing that sets off on the 60 minute run to Sorrento any earlier than around 7... although that year it was at least 7 days a week, rather than Mon/Sat only as at present!

In 2011, the school holidays here are between 10th June and 14th Sept - a period not covered by the timetables available now - so if that's when your vacation falls then you may prefer to wait and check?

Otherwise the choice comes down to being driven all, or just part, of the way...

With a private car and driver firm, going from Positano to the airport is some 85-120 Euro, depending on who you use, how busy they are etc. While the taxi rates mentioned above apply only to those registered in Naples, Positano sets it own - and although I've still to find them, I'm sure they'll be no lower than the 120 Euro fixed by the city's Comune.

I've only seen one of those limo firms publishing rates, which may be open to slight negotiation...

Cheaper, probably, to go only as far as Sorrento - and then take the 7 day a week Curreri bus to the airport. Tickets are 10 Euro per person, however the only one suitable, their first of the day, is rather early... at 06:30 (arrives 08:00), but the next is a bit late for your needs, at 08:30 (10:00).

I suppose our best option is to make our way back to Naples the night before our departure and find a hotel near where the bus collects passengers.

Thank you everyone!

Indeed, although you don't sound very keen on the idea...

Why not just get the difficult part out of the way, and stay in Sorrento? Shouldn't be too hard, making a checkin a little before nine from there!

You could take the Curreri at 06:30 - or an early Circumvesuviana into Naples (they start around 5AM) and then the Alibus to the airport?

Help available, if interested!
