Transportation passes in Paris
 

We will be in Paris from Tues Sept 25th to Tues Oct 2nd when we are leaving early for CDG. I am having difficulty figuring out which Metro/train pass is right for us. We will be staying in an apartment in Marais and will be taking a day trip to Versailles and possibly one other trip outside the city. I imagine we will use public transportation each day.

You do not want a pass that covers Versailles because you are then paying for an extended coverage for the one day that you will be out of the city limits. I would just buy a <i>carnet</i> which is ten tickets for travel within Paris. Buy individual tickets to get to and from Versailles.

I would get the Navigo pass. It is 19.15 Eruo and good for zone 1 & 2, metro and bus. You need to bring a small photo, slightly smaller than passport size and pay 5 Euro for the pass. If you plan to use a lot of public transportation it is the way to go in my opinion. It will expire at midnight on Sunday. If you will use more than four individual tickets per day the Mobilis pass would work best for Monday. It is 6.40 Euro. Individual tickets are 1.7 Euro.

You will need a separate ticket for Versailles as it is out of the zones for the Navigo.

The Navigo pass is not specifically for zones 1-2, you choose the zones you want it for, you can choose any zones you want, just like the old Carte Orange. It would be terrible for Parisian commuters if they couldn't include zones outside 1-2 as that was supposedly the main purpose of special passes for RATP, to help local residents with commuting expenses.

IN this situation, I'd probably buy a Navigo pass also for the first week, but a lot of tourits don't actually use public transportation as much as I do. Carnets could work.

I meant that the 19.15 fee covered zones 1 & 2. Yes, you can get more zones for more money but those zones are outside of the most common tourist sites.
