Transportation into London from Airport

I am flying into Gatwick Airport near London
in September. What is the best way to get
into the city from the airport?
Gatwick Express (train, follow signs in airport)to Victoria station, then underground (if very little luggage) or taxi to hotel.

Ann, this topic has been done to death on this forum. If you do a search for Gatwick Airport, you will find out more than you ever wanted to know, I promise!

Ditto, ditto what Marcia said. It was easy, took about 1/2 hour or so to Victoria station, then took a taxi to hotel.

If you don't have a lot of luggage, and don't have more than 2 people, I agree, Gatwick express is great. It is the fastest way to get from Gatwick to Victoria Station, by far. However, I recently went to London with my elderly mother, nephew and his wife, for which I hired a pickup service. That worked really well for the four of us, especially mother, who was very tired from the trip. A nice man dressed in a suit had a sign with my name on it at the exit to Gatwick. He had a good size van and provided interesting commentary on our drive into town, delivering us at the door to the hotel for 75 pounds.
Martha
Ann,

FYI, here's the Gatwick Express website:

http://www.gatwickexpress.com

You can use a luggage cart almost all the way from baggage pickup at the airport to the taxi stand at Victoria rail station in London. I'd advise taking a real London taxi, instead of the Underground, if you have more than a shoulder-bag's worth of luggage.

David White
http://www.KidsToLondon.com

We will be in London in August. I booked with a delightful gentleman who came highly recommended on one of the cruise boards. His price seemed quite reasonable and wasn't much more than if you take a taxi. E-mail me if you want the info.

Ann,
I always recommend Ray Skinner's company, www.london-transfers.com. Ray is a perfect delight to deal with, his drivers are all very nice and his cars/vans are all in good shape. Tell him Lori & John recommended him if you inquire. It's a flat fee (plus tip) and if you have jet lag and luggage it's the best way to go. It beats schlepping luggage on and off trains and taxi's (or the Tube .. which I do not recommend at all with luggage). Enjoy London!!

We just returned from London yesterday, and took a cab from our hotel to Victoria station, then Gatwick Express to airport. Very easy. For family of four, train was 33 pounds (11 pounds for adults and 5.50 for kids).
Pam B.
