Transportation in London

We are traveling to London in October with our 5 year old daughter. I am trying to figure out if I should get the Londonpass with Travel card included so that we can have unlimited underground and rail trips. Is there another option to prepay to get unlimited rides on the tube and rails? I have seen something about an Oyster card on the underground website but I am having trouble figuring out exactly how that works.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

NO NO NO - do not get the London Pass until you have done all of the maths and do not get the travel option under any circumstances. Read the following articles

wow, this was very helpful! Thank you for passing the articles on. So it seems we should get 2 of the cards and use the 2-4-1 and then pay on extra admission to something if they do not admit children under a certain age free.
