Transportation: Heathrow to London

I'll be arriving in London in the AM and will be by myself with a large suitcase and a carry on. What do you suggest would be the best way to get to my hotel on the north side of the Thames, the Tower Hotel? I arrive on a Thursday if that helps. Thanks!

I was in London two summers ago. We took the train from Heathrow directly to a station near the hotel we were staying at in South Kensington. From the station we only had to walk a couple of blocks to the hotel. This all worked out with our luggage. I would suggest checking the stations near your hotel to determine which line to take. The system is not difficult. We bought tickets when we arrived. I managed and I was traveling with an 18 year old. Just google London trains to get to the right website.

Also I booked a car service to take us to Heathrow upon our departure. We were leaving in the early morning and it was the easiest thing to do. I hope this helps.

Which is is not at all useful for someone staying at the Tower Hotel.

suesnothome: The Tower Hotel is is on the far eastern side of central London and the nearby tube station is quite a slog w/ luggage because there are a ton of steps. My first recommendation is to pack light -- Is there a reason you need a large suitcase and a carry on?

But in any case -- the only practical way to get to that location w/ luggage is to pre-book a car service like justairports.com. It will cost more than the Underground of course, but it would be MUCH cheaper than either a taxi all the way from LHR (more than £60) or the train + taxi option (the train maureen mentions only takes one to Paddington station which about as far across central London as it is possible to be - after paying for the train you'd still need to take a taxi, which from Paddington would likely cost £40+)

justairports will cost approx. £35-ish.

IF you can cut your luggage down to a small rollaboard wheeled suitcase you could maybe manage the tube -- but it wouldn't be easy.

It's quite easy to get within a few hundred metres of the hotel by Tube from Heathrow - Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith, walk a few feet to the adjacent platform, then District Line to Tower Hill.

The last few hundred metres are a swine (nothing to do with the Prime Minster I hasten to add) though with steps and road crossings to worry about

Thanks dotheboyshall. I think the car service will be best for me.
