Transportation from Villefranche to St. Paul de Vence

I will be on a cruise in September which ports in Villefranche. I have been to both towns before, however, I have always wanted to return to St. Paul. Is there a way to get from Villefranche to St. Paul via public transportation? If so, approximately how long will the trip take?

Also, if public transportation does not work out, would taking a taxi be possible? Approximately how much would the ride cost? Are drivers readily available in both towns?

Thanks in advance for the help.

You could take the train from Nice to Cagnes-sur-Mer and then a bus up to St.-Paul, but I don't know how long that would take. As for a taxi, I imagine it would cost a pretty penny, given the distance; you might be better off with a car and driver.

From Nice ( I think it's called GARE ROUTIERE, or the main bus terminal) it's about a fifty-minute bus ride to St. Paul de Vence.

Have never taken public transport in the area, but from reading this forum, people have mentioned taking a bus from Nice to St Paul (rather than train then bus). Also there's a train stop in Villefranche. Would it not be possible to take the train directly from Villefranche to Cagnes Sur Mer & then either bus or taxi? (Asking Weadles & Underhill really)

There was a taxi driver in St Paul-Gilbert-. If he's not around someone else must be. Wonder what he'd charge to pick you up & return. I'm sure there are taxis at the port in Villefranche but I'm sure they'd charge top dollar.

Mclaurie,

We need one of our public-transport experts here; my knowledge is distinctly general, as we always go by car.

Duh Weadles did talk about the Nice/St Paul bus.

I did a search for taxi info in the area & I found this string from a cruise message board you might want to read. I believe someone mentions 110e for rountrip taxi Villefranche/St Paul. They also mention a tour co. Dream Tours that everyone seemed to like.

Here's a website that lists tons of taxis in the area

I didn't see any listed for St Paul, but many in Villefranche. There don't appear to be rates though. You'd have to call.

That's easy. I just did that in December. From Villefranche take the "Transport Alpes-Maritimes" bus which stops at the square at the west end of town. Go into Nice (10 minutes)to the Gare Routiere station. (end of line) At Gare Routiere take the 400 bus to St. Paul de Vence. From Nice to St.Paul de Vence takes about 35-40 minutes. Fast easy, comfortable and costs about 5 euros return. Frequent service/no problem getting back.

Wow! Thanks for all of the responses.

Larry J, that is the exact information I needed! Thanks so much.

McLaurie, thank you for the effort you put into trying to answer my question. You are always so helpful to everyone on the boards, and have certainly helped me many times!

I'm also trying to figure out how to go from Nice to St. Paul. Does anyone have any specifics on what bus company the 400 is? I think it's either TAM or SAP, but can't find a web site or more specific info. I'm trying to cram two visits (Nice and St. Paul) into one day, so it's important that I find out how many buses run every day and what the schedule is. thanks.
