transportation from rome to positano

Does anyone know how to find a driver and car to take us from Rome to Positano? What is the approximate cost? We have six people going and we are concerned about taking the train with luggage and so many people; therefore, think that a driver would be a better way to get there. We leave in 4 days. Thank you.

Sorry I can't help you with the driver, but we did take the train from Rome to Naples and hired a driver there from the information booth at the Naples Station. From Naples it cost about 50Euro in 2001.

I just found a website (AutoEurope) and they wanted $1,044.00 to take us from Rome to Positano. Maybe we should rethink this or just rent a car. If we decide to take the train is it better to arrange transportation from Naples to Positano before we leave the US?

Hi joey,

Try Limousine Service Sorrento (Renato Cuomo)
www.cuomonet.it

Also consider Francesco. He has started his own business. He might give you a better price.

Maybe your hotel can help make arrangements for you. Try emailing them and see if they can help.

We took the train to Naples and then had a driver for 2 and that was about 100 euros one way.

One other thing you can try is searching on the internet for flavio gioia in positano. They run the local transportation (Buses, taxes, other transportation). They do have small buses and very nice cars for hire with a driver. I emailed Rianna there and made arrangements for our wedding day transportation by mercedes sedan and they were great. I don't have her email address anymore, but someone on this site refered me to them. Do a search even on this site and I am sure you can find an email address listed or website. I would think they could arrange it for you, but I have not a clue what it would cost. We had a car for a few hours with driver and it was around 100-120 euros I think. Good luck.

My family of 5 have hired a driver to take us from our Positano hotel to our Rome apartment. For the door-to-door service, he's charging 330 euro. He has a comfortable van that'd probably accomodate the 6 of you too. (3.5 hr drive, btw)

Very reputable Fodors-recommended driver who owns Limousine Service Sorrento: Renato Cuomo. www.cuomonet.it

Hope this helps.

Something else to consider is taking the train all the way to Salerno. You can then catch a ferry to Positano or you can take the Sita bus. If you take the Sita bus you will take one bus from Salerno to Amalfi and another from Amalfi to Positano. Sita buses have plenty of room for luggage. We took the Circumvesuviana from Naples to Sorrento and then the bus from Sorrento to Positano. The most difficult part was dealing with our luggage on the Circumvesuviana because it can be crowded and there is no particular place for luggage. Personally with 6 people, I would take the train to Salerno and from there either the ferry or bus. Drivers are wonderful, but too expensive for my taset.

Take the train from Rome to Naples. A private driver can then transport you to Positano for about 100 euros each way. Any hotel concierge can arrange a private driver for you.

I can also recommend Giovanni Gargiulo at tourofitaly.com. We've used him and his son many times for pick ups either in Rome or Naples- Positano. He's extremely reliable, and a very good driver. It won't cost you anything like the exorbitant AutoEurope quote!

Train fare for 6 adults is 200E 1cl or 130E 2cl.

A limo from Rome to Positano is about 100E.

It would appear that 330E for a limo direct from hotel to hotel is worth it.

there are direct buses from Rome's airport to Positano - really cheap and less a hassle than all the train changes and then bus or taxi involved.

Ira, two years ago, my family of 4 paid about 300E for the trip from Rome-Positano. How could it be possible that this trip now costs only 100E? Did you mean Naples-Positano?

We used Renato Cuomos' services 3 weeks ago to pick us up from Naples then take to Positano. It was 75 Euros for 2 of us. We then used him on the way back. The train from Naples to Rome was easy. The limo service was excellent. www.cuomonet.it

Renato Cuomo took us from Rome to Positano in 2001. He was great. At that time, I think it was around $400.00. It was well worth to us as we were on our honeymoon.

Hi weadles,

>Did you mean Naples-Positano?
Yes. Thanks for catching the error.

Try sorrentolimo.com (used their service for an amalfi drive this september) - Genarro is well-versed with the area and can arrange pickup from Rome. We were 4 people with some luggage and took the eurostar to naples from rome and then the circumvesuviana (trains leave every half hour, almost) to sorrento... and then proceeded on the drive to positano, amalfi, ravello.
