Transportation from Rome Termini

Are there any shuttles etc from the Termini station to one's hotel or will I be limited to Taxi's? (Not interested in bus or metro). There will be four of us with luggage so I assume that would require two taxi's. That is why I would prefer a shuttle/van service.
Thanks

hi, DAB,

many taxis are more like minivans than conventional taxis, so they can take 4 people plus luggage.

there are a number of taxi firms recommended on this board who would assist, I'm sure.

regards, ann

If you decide to use a taxi, make sure you go to the official ranks as you exit Termini (they are in front.) Somehow I exited out a side door and had to pass through a gauntlet of unlicensed, aggressive cab drivers who insisted it would cost 50E for the short ride. I knew it should only cost 6E and am glad I scurried back inside and looked for the official cab line! (yes, my ride was only 6E!)

Do not get distracted at Termini, this is prime a pickpocketing zone. After my close encounter with an expensive cab ride a gypsy lady practically flung her baby at me (so I would reach out and take my hands off my belongings!) I did not accept her offer, LOL. This is all part of Rome's welcoming committee, haha.

There is a very active taxi queue outside Termini. Just walk out and grab the next one.

There are quite a few that will fit 4pp + luggage - perhaps 20% are larger station wagons or mini-mini-vans but most may not be big enough - depending on how much luggage you have.

No need to pick any one firm - any of the taxis in the queue will be fine.

From Termini to Navona area will be about 12-13 Euros/taxi, which includes the 1 Euro per large bag extra fee.

Thanks for the quick and authoratative sounding advice.

Just be aware that it can sometimes cost more, not because you're being ripped off, but due to traffic. My ride in July to the Piazza Navona was over 20E, but it was due to very heavy traffic. The meter doesn't stop if you're held up in traffic!

If you are landing that day just get your shutttle from FCO and skip Termini.

Will you be coming into Rome from another city or from the airport?

SusanP Aug 25th, 2007 01:16 PM

Oh, well, of course as bob says, if you're arriving by plane, take a shuttle from the airport. I've used www.airportshuttle.it on four trips and they are great.

NeoPatrick Aug 25th, 2007 05:27 PM

I was assuming the poster is arriving in Rome by train from another city. NO? If flying into FCO then I agree to take a shuttle FROM the airport, not a train to Termini and then a taxi or shuttle.

I will be arriving by train at the Termini....So your suggestions for the airport shittle are not applicable, but hopefully will educate other travellers. It helps to "cover all the bases"....
