Transportation from Nurenberg to Prague

At first I thought I would take the post cruise package offered by Viking which includes transportation from the ship in Nurenberg to the hotel in Prague along with a 3 night stay. Although expensive, it certainly is convenient.
Is it difficult to arrange transportation independently? Now I am thinking it might be cheaper to arrange my own transportation and hotel. I know it is about 300 km to Prague from Nurenberg. Outside of taking the train, are private cars available? We will have luggage (not too much) so I don't want things to get too involved.

Thank you.

You take the bus from Nurenberg to Prague. The trip is 3.75 hours and there are no stops. You can bring food and drinks on board (you can buy food/drinks at the train station). The bus stops right outside the main train station and it couldn't be easier. You can buy your tickets on line from the German rail site. 2nd class tickets are fine (you sit on the top level).

I'm sure it will be a lot cheaper to do your own transportation and hotels.

I haven't done that, but I would never think one could just show up in Nurenberg and find someone to drive 300 km to Prague -- cheaply. Any private drive rthat does that must essentially drive both ways to get back, so maybe it depends how much that charge is as to whether it is convenient. What do you have against the train, anyway, you can get a direct train there (no transfers) in only 3:30 hr and it will cost only around 30 euro. Then you'd have to take a taxi from wherever you are in Nurnberg to the train station, that's all.

It is easy to get a hotel on your own in Prague.

I'm sorry, I think I may be mistaken about that train, I think there is a direct bus. I wondered because the train route doesn't seem that direct on the map, so you may require a transfer by train. Others can advise on that, but I guess you don't want that, anyway.

The train no longer goes from Nurenberg to Prague. You take a bus as I described above.

The bus will be to the right of the train station if the main door is behind you. It's big and white and you couldn't possibly miss it.

Thanks for the info. Is it a double decker bus? Is there a bathroom? Is there a place for luggsge to be stowed?

Hi Mollybee - We are planning to take that same bus, but in the opposite direction on a trip this summer. I was concerned about a long distance bus at first, but I have learned that is is really quite comfortable. There is a bathroom on board, room for luggage, comfy seats.

trains do indeed I believe go between Nurnberg and Prague but take a round about slow route and thus the bus is now the way to go. But last I knew www.bahn.de still shows some Nurnberg to Prague rail links. But as even the bus taking railpasses for full value who would want to take the train?
