Transportation from Marseille to Les Baux

Can anyone tell me how we can get from the port in Marseilles to Les Baux - I just called Hertz and they are closed on Sunday - the day that our Ship is in port. The cruise line only has a short tour there and we want to spend more time with our french family. Is there a train ? Busses ?

Don't stop with Hertz; get in touch with autoeurope.com. I'm sure the rental outlets near the Marseille train station (or even the airport) will be open at least part of Sunday.

Does your French family live at Les Baux?

Thanks Underhill - are you familiar with the area ? Can we drive from Marseilles to Les Baux easily ? Is there a train going there ? Yes - my family is from France and I have an uncle in Les Baux - the rest are in Paris and Allsace (spelling?) I have only been to Paris.

No, there is no train to Les Baux. It's about an hour's drive or less from Marseilles.

Call AutoEurope - 1-800-223-5555. They'll have a rental for you at the airport. Get a good Michelin map of Provence to guide you there - it's not difficult.

Thanks StCirq - we are arriving on Royal Caribbean - at the port - is there a rental car company there ?

JerseySue:

I have no idea. Call AutoEurope and ask them. They'll tell you where the nearest affiliate is.

Take the train to Avignon and Les Baux is about 15 miles south of the city - i don't think many buses - sporadic so have relatives pick you up at Avignon TGV station, which has bullet trains from Marseilles about hourly. Les Baux is about equal distance from Arles station, which also has trains from Marseilles though a bit less frequent. Or perhaps you could pick up a car rental at Avignon TGV station on a Sunday.
