We are staying in the Marais district. Is there a car service or is taxi the best way to travel into the city? Is Uber readily available??? How do I need to change my app?? There are 2 of us with a suitcase each

Taxis are the easiest way. The fare is fixed at 50 euro. Be sure to take a taxi from the designated taxi queue and not from anyone who "offers" you a ride.

to get around Paris itself either walk as most sights are in a fairly compact area or take the metro - no need for taxis or Uber and a waste of money - metro is easy and goes everywhere.

As PalenQ says, Paris is very compact and you can walk almost anywhere. And the metro and bus systems are wonderful.

You can even take the RER (suburban rail) to the center of Paris for 10 euros if you want. It includes metro connections to anywhere in the city, but many parts of the Marais would be within walking distance anyway from Châtelet-Les Halles or Saint Michel-Notre Dame RER stations.

This would reduce your carbon footprint to almost nothing, unlike a taxi.

I usually walk or take the bus but last year I hurt my foot and couldn't walk very far. I used Uber many times and never had any trouble. it works just like it works here.

Parisien taxis are professionals, who have to take examinations to be licensed and insured. They may pick up at train stations and airports, and may also be hailed on the street. There is no surge charge for Parisien taxis, though prices are a little higher at night and on holidays.

Uber does not require its drivers to pass examinations or have insurance. Uber drivers are not allowed to be hailed on the street, you must have an app to reserve their services. Sometimes there is a surge charge during busy periods.

If you are an Uber regular, you will be pleased to know that my experience with Uber has been excellent. The cars are nice, the drivers polite, and I have yet to encounter surge pricing (unlike other places). I like to ease of using the app. I downloaded the app for G7 on a recent trip and found it to be overall a bit more expensive. Another app you can use if you are interested in a strictly Parisienne app is Chauffer Privee. I have it but haven't tried it yet.

Yes, Paris is very walkable, but many don't realize that everyone isn't able to walk long distances and for some, the convenience of a car service can be the difference between going to Paris or just wishing you can.

I can assure you that Uber´s surge pricing is alive and well in Paris just as anywhere else.

I use Uber from time to time but generally I take the bus, métro, taxi or I just walk.

We took the RER in from the airport as it stopped close to where we were staying. We each had a small suitcase so this wasn't too difficult but if your suitcases are large, you might want to choose a different option.

Obviously taxi is the "best" in terms of convenience, especially if you have a decent amount of luggage.

However, RER is great, fast (~35min) and drops you close to the Marais...and you can transfer to lines 1 or possibly 11 to get you a little closer to your hotel.

The real bargain is if you get a Navigo card (5€) and load a Mon-Sun pass (~21€) onto it. It covers all five zones, which includes CDG and Versailles as well as pretty much everything else you'd want to see in Paris.

The only hangup is that it is NOT a 1-week pass (like what you can get in London)...just a Mon-Sun pass, so, it may not sync with the days you'll be there.

Of course, with two of you, the taxi cost is split compared with using the RER or Mon-Sun pass.

We (me and my 78- and 80yo parents) recently visited Paris. When I go with DH, DS and/or DD, we mostly walk, or take the Metro. My dad has knee and ankle problems, so walking was limited.

I tried to use the G7 app, mentioned by other posters, but couldn't get it to load on my phone, despite emails with the nice people at G7.

We tried Uber, and used it several times. Invariably, right after I summoned Uber, a taxi would drive by. I would say to use taxis if you're in a busy are and have cash. But Uber worked fine too.

Thanks everyone. I have walked the city dozens of times, and love it that ay---but as I have gotten older it is not as easy, so need to combine walking with taxi. I may try uber too...thanks again.

You can easily hail a Parisien taxi on the street. Look for a green light on top, meaning it's available.
Uber is not allowed to pick up passengers on the street unless there are previous arrangements and pre-payment has been completed.

We take the RoissyBus from CDG to the Paris Opera. Opera is a huge metro station with many lines. you can take the metro from there or hail a cab.
the RoissyBus is 11.50 E per person one way.
