Transportation from Airport in Reykjavik to downtown hotel
Posted by: prinret on Apr 9, 14 at 5:47pm Posted in: Europe We are two senior ladies who are staying in Reykjavik for a few days in May. We are staying in a downtown apartment hotel. Can anyone tell us the best way to get from the airport to the hotel? I noticed an advertisement for a bus which stops at our hotel. Is that the best way for us to get downtown? If so, is it better to book in advance? How do the taxis compare in price? Reykjavik is the last stop on the way home from a one-month b2b cruise that ends in Copenhagen. Any suggestions on the top tours for two senior ladies? This forum has been very helpful in the past and I look forward to your responses. |
The bus is definitely the best way to get to downtown reykjavik from Keflavik. It is about 30 miles and a taxi would be very expensive. The bus will cost 2400 ISK, which is about $20. I would imagine a taxi would cost ten times that.
You won´t need to book in advance, you can just buy a ticket at the sales desk located in the arrival terminal at the airport. You will need to book to get from your hotel to the airport. The bus will take you to the main Bus terminal (BSI) on the outskirts of the city centre. From there you move to a smaller mini-bus and they will take you directly to your hotel. Check out this link for more information. There appears to be two bus companies that run services from the airport to Reykjavik. http://www.kefairport.is/English/Transportation/Buses/ |
With regards to tours...well I would recommend a trip to the Blue Lagoon, plus maybe some Whale Watching? I am sure you can arrange this from your hotel, but here are some links for you to explore.

In Reykjavik we especially enjoyed the following:
National Museum of Iceland (very modern and interesting displays) http://www.thjodminjasafn.is/english Free walking tour (but do tip!) http://www.freewalkingtour.is/ Small boat cruise to see puffins (there are several companies that go out for a couple of hours) |
Thank you for your replies. My friend and I are certainly looking forward to our trip.
it is good to know we don't have to book our transportation from the airport in advance. As always, these Fodors forums are helpful. |
