Transportation for Paris CDG Airport to hotel in the 5th?
 

I need your advice on what mode of transportation is the best to take from the CDG airport in Paris to a hotel in the Latin Quarter, Hotel des Grandes Ecoles on rue Cardinal Lemoine? Thanks for your help!

Kay--<BR>One way, the way I have done it, is not necessarily the lowest cost but is reasonable. Take the air terminal bus to town, get off at Gare du Nord, and take a taxi from there to your hotel. You will probably get lots of other recommendations on how to go, but one thing you shouldn't do unless you feel the time and expense is worth it, is to take a taxi all the way into the hotel from the airport.

Kay: Here we go again. Wayne is person who gives advice and than makes a stupid statement like don't take a taxi from the airport to the hotel. There are many airport options to hotels and many are very reasonable. Remember your getting off a long flight and just want to relax. Just use the search or go to Fred's American in paris web site.

If you don't have a lot of luggage, I recommend taking the RER and getting off at the St Michel stop and then taking a taxi to the hotel. Or switch trains at St. Michel which I think connects through an underground passageway to the #10 line and get off at the Caridnal Lemoine stop. However, that would be a lot of time in the metro station hauling baggage around.

In November, we took the Roissey bus right from the airport to the Opera House right in front of American Express Company. It is a very direct route. We then were close enough to walk to our hotel in St.Lazare on rue d'Amsterdam. I think it cost $48 FF or so each and it took about 50 minutes. From there you could take a taxi.

To add to Tammy's comments (Hi Tammy!) I would say exit the St. Michel metro stop and walk to your hotel. By the time you get off the RER and transfer to the metro train, you'll have done a lot of walking up and down lots of stairs. Might as well enjoy walking outdoors. I stay at Hotel Balcons and it's about an 8 minute walk, but enjoyable.

And there is always the shuttle service (PariShuttle)which I will be using again because I will have more luggage (one checked suitcase and one baq with cameras and sketchbook) than I care to pull along the street. I am not as young as some here and don't fancy pulling them up the metro stairs either. AlthoughI am on a budget, I will pass on something else and pay for the convenience. (Hi Monica)

I was in Paris last September and arrived at DeGalle airport and splurged on a taxi cab. Took me right to my hotel. Didn't have to take a shuttle, get off, walk, hail a cab, go up and down the stairs of the metro, make sure I got on the right train, etc. It was worth it after a long flight.<BR><BR>

Just back yesterday from Paris. Arranged for Paris Shuttle. They never showed up even after 3 calls. Take a taxi. Taxi cost me 33.00 euros from CDG to the 1st. Paris Shuttle was charging 36.00 US. Waited over an hour.

I think a taxi is "best" as it's most convenient and less hassle. But, if you do want to save a little money (very little) and you are alone (otherwise you won't save), you can take the Air France bus to Montparnasse Tower and a cab from there, I think that would be the closest airport bus stop to that hotel. I don't know what Wayne is referring to as an airport bus that goes to Gare du Nord, as I wasn't aware of one that did. The RER rail line goes there, though. <BR><BR>Ultimately, the best answer would depend on info you didn't give -- number of persons you have in your party, and amt of luggage, and even day and time of arrival.

Kay before you decide to take Airport Shuttle read some of the latest reports. Something wrong is going on there and I wouldn't take a chance

It's so nice to get suggestions from all kinds of people whose personal experiences are what you are seeking. People like Tim seem to forget common decency sometimes, but we can overlook such behavior--he doesn't know any better.

What is the approximate cost of a taxi from CDG to rue Dauphine in the 6th? I just want to know how much to allot for the fare plus tip.<BR>Thanks.

We had a bad experience with airportshuttle (blue and yellow) last week. We almost didn't make it our return flight

Just how much is the taxi ride to this hotel???

Kay m y wife and I just got back last night from Paris but we spent the first 3 nights at Hotel Grandes Ecoles. We took the free shuttle from the air terminal to the RER, got a ticket to St. Michel, got off and walked upstairs to the #10 metro line (same ticket) and took it to Cardinal Lemoine stop, walked upstairs to street level, and then walked the last block to the hotel. We both had a day pack and one wheeled bag so it wasn't bad. Cost was $7-8 and time went quick.

I would allow about 35 - 45 Euros for 2 people riding in a taxi, perhaps another 2-5 Euros for baggage, and 10% tip to the driver...

Even though the taxi would be expensive, it's probably the best cost/convenience option. I took a taxi from Gare du Nord to the same hotel, and it was worth every Euro! Have a great time, you'll love it there....

Larry is exactly right, it's the same thing I do. Not much more time than a cab (15 mins.) and much less expensive.
