Transportation: Florence to Positano
 

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to go with a group of 15 from Florence to Positano, staying in Positano. How would you recommend getting to Positano from Florence? Train to Naples or Salerno? My group is unsure of taking luggage on a boat, so they're leaning towards land transport from Naples/Salerno to Positano?

I'd be grateful for your recommendations for our August 11-15 stay.

For so many people I would train to Naples and then get a couple of cars with private drivers from there. Once you are there getting around by ferry is OK for so many people - but trying to get 15 people plus luggage on one bus is not going to work - you will probably end up split between at least 2 buses and possibly more depending on how many passengers are.

Be aware that in Aug the buses are often standing room only and some don;t stop at all since they are already totally full. Moving 15 around except on ferries or with multiple taxis will not be easy.

I'm not a fan of the Naples train station, Salerno route offers a fast train from Florence. We stayed in Sorrento a few years ago and I dreaded the return. A clerk at the hotel suggested the bus to Rome. It was awesome, no hoisting luggage overhead (gets stowed below by bus driver) - quick, cheap and totally comfortable. No Naples train station (I've traveled all over, lived in big cities and I don't think I'm normally nervous, but just really didn't like that particular train station)
