Transportation Capri to Rome
My husband and I have our itinerary fairly well planned up to the day we return our rental car in Sorrento Sept. 23rd. We then plan 2 nights on Capri and thanks to this forum I have several ideas on which hotels to inquire about there. We will be in the Amalfi coast area Sept.19 thru Sept. 25. Would you advise day tripping by car from Positano for example to Pompeii and the surrounding sites? We're planning the nights of the 24th and 25th on Capri (If I can get hotel reservations! It sounds like it is still very busy at this time of year) Then we go to Rome on the 26th. What is the most convenient way to get from Capri to Rome? Train?(Can you get from Sorrento to Rome)or is it necessary to go into Naples? Is it advisable to book train reservations before we leave the States? Or is a limosine an option? Would limosine service by outrageously expensive from Sorrento or Naples to Rome?
I guess that's more than one question. I'll anxiously await your helpful replies.
Hi Jeannie- My husband and I recently went from capri to Rome. We took a hydrofoil from Capri to Naples, a taxi from the port in Naples to the train station, and a train from Naples to Rome. Sounds complicated, but was really easy in the end. You will LOVE Capri--it the most beautiful place we have ever been and is certainly a different place at night when the crowds leave!

Jeannie,
You could get picked up in Sorrento ( fifteen minutes by hydrofoil from Capri) and driven to Rome for about $300. I have the name of an excellent driver, who's also a lot of fun! If you want his name, e-mail me. He picked us up in Positano, took us to Sorrento and Pompeii, then on to Rome. You can also take a train from Naples to Rome for about $75/person.
Jeannie,

Hi! I feel like I should do ads for these guys because I've recommended them so much! Anyway, they are a father-son team based in Sorrento named Giovanni and Giancarlo Gargiulo. I actually found them through another woman on this forum! They can be reached via e-mail at: [email protected]; or fax at: 011-39-0815330907 or their website: www.tourofitaly.com. I must rave about them because the dad spent ten hours with us giving us his personal tour of the Amalfi Coast. It was fabulous. He is a true character, and an excellent driver, as is his son! Both men speak fluent English. The dad lived in the States for 29 years. You will really enjoy them! Good luck! If you know your dates and are interested, I would get in touch with them now. They seem to get mentioned both here and on AOL Travel quite a bit!
