Transportation by train to Montalcino July 1st

Wanted to get your opinion. I've been reading on the forum about Palio in Siena on July 2nd. I'm concerned about transportation by train to Montalcino (or in that area anyway). Do you still think that it will be easy enough to buy our train tickets when we get to the train station or do you think that we need to make reservations ahead of time?

Thanks!

You'll want to take a bus. I think the closest train stop is around 8 miles away.Where are you staying?

garyt,
You can't make reservations because only regional trains run to Buonconvento, the nearest train station.

I am fairly sure you can take a bus from Siena to Montalcino. The company that operates them is TRA-IN. http://www.trainspa.it/en/home.html
bus 114a - journey time around 75 minutes.

what I don't know is whether it is possible to reserve seats.
