Transportation between Venice and Murano
 

Hi,
How much does it cost for a waterboat between Venice and Murano? Is there an unlimited ride ticket for any one day? We're thinking about staying at Murano and go to Venice during the day.

The prices dicky2 gave seem almost correct or rather were valid till about 2 years ago. I believe I paid 10.50 for 24hr pass and 22.00 for 72hr pass last two times. Still a great value. They include unlimited rides in Venice + boats to Burano, Murano, etc.

You might check to make sure the hotel doesn't have some free service for their guests.

When we visited in 2003 they had eliminated the 5-day vaporetto pass. Darn. We were still able to see everything with a 3-day pass, and it was an excellent buy. Note that the passes are issued for hours, so you can get two half-days out of a 24 hour pass.

I don't know if there is even anywhere to stay in Murano. It is a very small island and both it and Burano were very interesting, but there is far more to do in Venice proper, so I would stay there.

I realize you're looking for trips from Murano to Venice, not the other way around. But for others, I'd be a little wary of the free boat rides to Murano offered by many hotels. Most of those are set up by glass factories, and they take you to a certain place, possibly for hard sell attempts, and may schedule you to come back when you'd rather be wandering on your own. I know not all hotels do that, but I know a lot do!

The free boat trips are fine. Once you get to Murano, you can go anywhere you want and take the vaporetto back.

A single vaporetto ticket costs 5 euros. As mentioned, a 24 hour ticket costs 9.3 euros. So if youplan your day properly (Murano does not take a day) you can get the 24 hour ticket and use the vaporetto for more than the round trip to Murano.

This year we are spending a few nights on Murano before we stay in Venice. Have you located lodging??

Sorry, Rufus. I get that about a free "one way" boat trip. I assumed they were talking about free "round trip" boat trips.

The prices for vaporettos now depend on the route. This week Grand Canal tickets (good for 90 minutes) were 5 euros; non Grand Canal tickets were 3 euros; 24 hour tickets were 10.5 euro, 72 hours were 22 euro. Boarding at the train station they also insisted that we buy baggage tickets at 3 euro.

We just returned from 16 days traveling around Italy. We had 3 days in Venice, so we bought the 3 day pass for 22Euro. We were not charged for our luggage at the train station. We went to Murano which is included with the pass. They only checked our tickets at the train station and not on any other day and we were on the boats alot.

Regarding luggage, I forgot all about supposedly needing an additional ticket for large suitcases and upon arrival bought our 72 hour passes and hopped on our vaparetto. Surprise! Immediately we were joined by two "boat police" who carefully checked everyone's ticket or pass on the boat, finding a couple without tickets and fining them. But meanwhile we were both standing, straddling our large suitcases. They checked our tickets but not a word was said about the luggage.
