Hi,
do you know of any trains between Tallinn and St Petersburg? Did anyone use the bus service between both cities? Any other advices?
Thanks,

According to the timetables at www.bahn.de, there is one train. It departs Tallinn at 23:30 and arrives at St. Petersburg at 09:29. No sleeping accommodations are listed.

There used to be a train that was cancelled last year, not sure if it has been restored. The distance is pretty short, though, something like 300 - 350km, and there is an inexpensive bus option:

Thanks. What do you prefer? The night train or buses? Shall I book it in advance?

According to www.seat61.com, the night train was to be discontinued on 1 August. See here: http://tinyurl.com/6zb7ee.

Hopefully Feliks will write back and either confirm or deny what the Man in Seat 61 reports.

We took the bus from StPetersburg to Tallin several years ago--booked on line with Euroline--traveled during the day--no problems.

BEfore you make any plans to go to St Petersburg at this time you may want to think about it in view of the Russian-Georgia conflict. Also, I am copying a posting from another entry that may interest you.

I was born and grew up in Russia (now live 16 years in US). I would love to show my husband and my son all the richness of Russia, but I would hate to put my $ to support their economy and tourist industry. Russia now is not much better than it was during cold war. There is huge Anti American propaganda (almost Anti American hysteria). Sometimes, I read Russian travel forums (similar to Fodors, only in Russian), and it gets pretty scary what Russian 'tourists' write about America and Americans. They blame America for all their problems. The same goes for this conflict. All they see, it is America behind all of these. So, my precious travel $ will go somewhere else.

I think there is a train Tallinn-St Pete, but maybe the bus is even more convenient, with Eurolines. They seem to have a good service.
Shall I buy the bus tickets in advance? I will be travelling on a Monday night (departure at 23h from Tallinn). Or could I easily find bus tickets when in Tallinn?
Thanks

I would buy it on line and then print out your ticket. One less thing to have to worry about on your trip. You even get to choose seat assignments!
