Transportation between Munich airport and Salzburg
 

My Partner and I will be travelling between Ottawa and Munich in early May. The day we arrive in Munich we are immediately heading to Salzburg. Does anyone have any suggestions on transport between these two cities. The shortest possible option is the most desirable and flying is not out of the question.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated...

It's a very easy drive in a rental car.

It is also very easy by train. You can go from the airport to Salzburg without going to downtown Munich. The trains connect in the Munich Ost station. Check bahn.de for schedule information and use the Munich airport as your starting point. Travel time is 2.25 to 2.5 hours. The train is probably easier after an overnight flight.

To expand on detraveler's route:

From Munich airport, take the S-Bahn train S8 to Munich Ost. The change for a regular DB train between Munich Ost & Salzburg.
