Transportation between France, Germany and Italy

First time ever on this site - it's great - I can't believe how much I have already learned. We are celebrating our anniversary by taking a cruise out of Rome in September -- our plan is fly into Paris for a few days and then go to a little town in Germany - Amberg - were we were stationed when in the army. We will go to Rome from Amberg to get the cruise. I would prefer to take trains to get around -- don't know where to begin and would appreciate help. Thanks

Looking quickly on a map, Amberg is no that far from Nuremberg.

My thoughts would be fly from Paris to Nuremberg, then change for the train to Amberg.

Then return to Nuremberg and fly to Rome.

AirBerlin serves Paris Orly - Nuremberg, and Nuremberg - Rome Fiumicino.

If you really want to take the train, go to bahn.de to look up train schedules. My guess is taking the train for all these journeys will eat up a lot of time, and probably expensive as well.

Thanks for the advice - I would rather take a train but don't want to take up too much time doing it, as you said. I am really a novice at this and appreciative of the help.

As I said, you'll need to do your homework to see how long the train rides would be.

The German rail website, Bahn.de, will have all the info you need. It has English version.
