Transportation Between Airline Terminals in Heathrow

We will be arriving Terminal 1 on British Airways from Milan on 5/13/07.

Our connecting flight is on American Airlines back to NY in Terminal 3.

Does anyone know of bus transportation between these two terminals and where it is located?

From the Heathrow website:

Connecting from Terminal 1 International to Terminal 3
Your connection will take approximately 60 minutes, from landing to departure gate. On arrival, head for the Flight Connections Centre. Pass through customs and security, and then visit our airline desks before taking a coach to the departure gate at Terminal 3.

We did this in September, and it was a smooth transfer, though the security lines were long.

Transfers between terminals at Heathrow take place "airside" (ie on the side of the airport where the planes are, not the side where the taxis are). You do have to go through the security line-up again (even if it's a T4-T4 connection), but the only passengers in line are those with connecting flights. It usually takes 5-20 minutes to get through security (but I budget 30 minutes to be on the safe side). The bus ride usually takes about 10 minutes, but it can be a 10 minute walk through the corridors to the point where the bus leaves, and another 10 minutes to wait for one to arrive. So, cw's estimate is a good one. If you have any choice, however, about the amount of time you have between flights, I would recommend that you budget for at least 2 hours (because sometimes flights don't disembark at the scheduled time).

The bright yellow signs for flight connections are easy to see and follow.

<<< You do have to go through the security line-up again >>>

And conform to UK rules on cabin luggage - ie one piece, 100ml sized liquids, etc - see www.baa.com

If you don't have a connecting flight & have booked 2 separate tickets (ie Milan to Heathrow, Heathrow to New York - or BA are being bolshie - then you may have to go through immigration, collect luggage & recheck it, in which case 3-4 hours may not be enough

We have a "connecting" flight. Our arrival time in Heathrow is 1:00 p.m., and our departure flight to NY is 4:35 p.m.

It looks like we will have enough time to make the AA flight back to NY.

The instructions from cw and Kate are clear and should be easy to follow.

Thank you so much for your help everyone (you too Alan).
