Hello, I have 3 questions, what is the safest and most economical way to get to and from the airport? Our hotel is near the Spanish Steps. Also, is it wise to get train reservations in advance over the internet before our trip? I heard 2nd class is good or do you think 1st class is the way to go? Grazie.

I recommend you re-post your question with a more meaningful title, such as "Italy airport transfers and train reservations."

TC - The cheapest option is train from FCO to Roma Termini, then Metro (Line 'A') to 'Spagna' (Spanish Steps).

You do not have to book in advance for this train service, and 2nd class is fine.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Hi TC,

The Leonardo da Vinci Express leaves FCO for Rome TE on the :07 and :37 - costs 10E.

From Rome TE take the metro or a cab.

Depends on when and where you are going and the length of the ride.

Dear Ira,
We will be taking the train 4 times. Back and forth from the airport in Rome, roundtrip to Florence from Rome and a oneway trip from Naples to Rome.

ira Aug 15th, 2005 12:16 PM

Hi tee,

The train between FCO and Rome TE is 1cl only - 10.5E each way.

Rome/Florence and Naples/Rome are short enough for 2cl on the ES* to be fine.

If you know which days you are traveling, you can book your seats at www.trenitalia.com.

Use ticketless otion. You will get a confirmation code.

That and your passport are all you need.

Have a nice trip.

Thanks Ira

Ira,
I went on that website and it mentioned carriage or coach pertaining to seating. I have no idea what that means? Can you help? Thanks.

rex Aug 15th, 2005 06:49 PM

It's telling you which carriage, which coach, which rail car (all synonyms).

Best wishes,

Rex

Rex,
I've never done this before. How do I know what carriage to choose?

rex Aug 16th, 2005 05:30 AM

I don't know what you mean. Where are you seeing this?

Anyhow, I think a disservice was done to you and everyone else on this forum when you chose to ignore the very good advice from Robespierre to re-post this question with a "proper" mesage header. See my reply to http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34661153 - - I guess I did not post something similar to this yesterday (Actually, I thought I did!) since Robespierre already had.

Hi teex,

You just choose your seats.

The carriage part is nly if you want to book a seat near someone who already has a seat.
