Transport to Edinburgh from GLA

We arrive in Glasgow at 0700 on 29 August and want to get to Edinburgh that morning. What is the most efficient mode of transport for two experienced seniors.

Did this last September. There's an airport style (racks for luggage) bus right outside the terminal that you take to the Queen St. rail station. About I hour to train to Edinburgh.

Airport Flyer bus right outside the terminal into Buchanan St Bus Station, take 15 to 20 mins, then Citylink 500 to Edinburgh, take about an hour and 10 mins. If you're feeling adventurous you can get off at Queen St Station and take the train to Waverly, takes about 50 mins.

So, I take it there is no direct link.

Bob - not to my knowledge there isn't (you have to go via Glasgow city centre). I guess there's not much demand for a direct service from GLA as Edinburgh has it's own airport.

There's LOTS of demand - as there is for people from Glasgow wanting to use Edinburgh Airport - but the owner of both airports want you to use the "local" airport. Now that the airports are owned by different companies expect big changes on access to both airports.

Stagecoach used to run a service - Edinburgh to Greenock via Glasgow airport, roughly hourly. I would be surprised to know that they were told to stop it by BAA - if they were making money nothing on earth would have stopped them. More likely it was "competition" from First buses into Glasgow, as nobody fancied hanging around for that long for a bus.
I would take the first bus available to Glasgow - 2 companies run them, then the train from Queen Street station.
Don't get the train from Glasgow Central, it takes twice as long.

Thanks, that helps.
I think we may just taxi to the Queens St. station and train from there--our hotel is near the Waverly station. How much for that taxi?
