transport shut-downs on Italian holiday
I will need to travel from Sorrento to Naples on June 2 -- an Italian national holiday. The schedule on the Circumvesuviana web site indicates that certain boats won't operate on holidays, but it doesn't say which departures ARE in operation.
My schedule is flexible, so it doesn't matter what time I leave Sorrento, I just need to make sure I CAN leave at some point that day! (I'm heading to Rome via the train.) Can anyone offer any guidance? |
Hi jende,
Did you mean boats or trains from Sorrento to Naples? The Circumvesuviana train should be on its Sunday/Holiday Schedule. |
Hi Ira,
I wasn't aware there were both! I'd prefer the boat, but I'll be happy to get to my destination any way available. I'm going to "tourist timetables" on the web site. Not sure if that's for the boat or train. It says that "FER" and "FES" don't run on Sun. or holidays, but "PER" is only closed down on Sat. and Sun. I don't see these symbols next to the schedule though. |

Jende - You don't need to worry. The Sunday/Public Holiday service on the Circumvesuviana train is almost the same as the weekday service.
On the timetable you found, only morning services marked FER (i.e. 07.38 & 08.52) will NOT run on June 2nd. http://www.campaniatrasporti.it/sito_CT/cerca1_toen.asp As you can see, the service is approx. every 30 mins. Hope this helps ... Steve P.S. I would go by train, not boat - otherwise you will have the problem and expense of getting from Molo Beverello to the railway station. |
Good advice from Steve.
