Transport options to Venice: Vaporetto, Alilaguna or water taxi?

We will be returning our rented car to Venice and hope to drop it off at Piazzale Roma. From there, we are wondering about the most efficient (at reasonable cost) transport to either the Zattere stop or Accademia stop in Dorsoduro. I'm aware that this is doable via the Vaporetto 1 or 2. Is this also possible via the Alilaguna Blue Line? What are the costs and how long is the trip? I have also heard that share water taxi may be an option. If so, what might the cost be and how would I book it.
All suggestions greatly appreciated.

It sounds as if the vaporetto is your best bet. (If you're staying in Venice for any length of time, but the multi-day vap pass.)

I've never taken the Alilaguna from PR, only from the airport. It's slow, and costs about 15 euros from the airport. Don't know if the cost changes from PR.

Similarly, I've take a shared water taxi to and from the airport but not from PR. Check Viator's website to get an idea of whether there's a shared WT from PR and the cost. Generally, since you're already in Venice proper and the trip isn't long, I'd forget the water-taxi idea, as you'll pay a lot more than the vap for not much more convenience.

As far as I can tell Alilaguna boats dont stop at Piazzale Roma. Check this map and download timetables:

http://www.alilaguna.it/en/lines/lines-map

You could go from Pzle. Roma on the cruise terminal tram, get off at the cruise terminal, and walk to the Alilaguna blue stop, close by.

Vaporetti will be right there at Pzle. Roma. This sounds like what you need:

"No. 6 runs from Piazzale Roma to the Lido via the Giudecca Canal with stops at Zattere, Giardini Biennale, and S. Elena. (Boats also go in the opposite direction.) It runs seven days a week during the main tourist season; before late May and after early September, it doesn't operate on Sundays."

The No.6 sounds like the quickest trip. Look at the maps.

The last option being a water taxi. Ask the hotel for booking and prices. To share one, I would imagine you would need to find someone going to the same place and willing to share.

Actually the Zattere isn't on the Grand Canal so the 1 isn't an option. Alilaguna is really for transport from/to the airport and wouldn't make sense for what you want.

Water taxi is expensive and honestly the trip from PLE to Zattere isn't a terribly scenic route, unless you like cruise ships. I'd just do the Vaparetto. But if you do want the taxi there should be no problem getting one at PLE Roma.

If you download "Venice in Time" app it will tell you which boat is coming when and which will take you to Zattere but in general it's the 2, 5.1 or 6.

I used the schedule on actv.it (http://www.actv.it/sites/default/fil...orario.pdf)and the Venice in Time app and never had a problem getting anywhere.

Berkshiregrl, thanks for the mention of the Venice in Time app. We have used the ACTV schedule a good bit, but never knew about the ViT app. Thank you.
