Transport options from Morocco (Fez) to Portugal (Lisbon)

My bride of 1.01 years and I will be travelling from Fez to Lisbon (or anywhere near) in mid-Oct. Wondering best options to do it at least moderately on the cheap. I tried to talk her into hitchhiking, but no go! Trains, buses, ferries, rental cars.......? Also looking for tips on a good spot to stay for 3-4 days in Portugal (hence the Lisbon area). This is the tail end of a Greece, Morocco, Portugal journey. Our preference is NOT 5-star hotels and umbrella drinks. Just good scenery, good people watching, good food. Somewhat rural or off the beaten path is welcome.

Why doesn't she want to hitchhike across to Lisbon? Can't she swim? ;-)

Look at www.skyscanner.com and www.whichbudget.com

Also note that easyJet has just started service to Fez - not sure from which hub, so it would be a two-hopper for sure but research it on the easyJet site.

EasyJet's new Fez service is via Paris. Maybe TAP has a direct flight?

Thank you for the tips, we'll check out the flights. Anyone know of train/bus options to get at least from Fez to the straight if Gibralter?
