Transport in Barcelona
 

We will go to Barcelona for two days from Rome in May this year. We will be landing at Girona Airport by Ryanair. I am going to book a hotel near La Ramblas in Barcelona. Please advise on the following:

1. How can we go from the Airport to Barcelona? Is there any bus like Terravision? Do we need to book in advance? Where is the bus drop off point at Barcelona? How far is that stop from La Ramblas.

2. Will we need to travel in public transport in Barcelona? If so, what kind of pass/ticket should we purchase?

Ryanair & Girona airport websites have details about the bus that goes into Barcelona. The buses are timed to flight arrivals & departures.

I think the bus stops at Placa Cataluyna, but you should check the website to double check.

Transport within Barcelona:
For 2 days, you (I assume 2 people when you say "we") can start with a T-10 ticket, which can be shared among 2 or more passengers. T-10 means you can use it for 10 rides. http://www.tmb.cat/en_US/barcelona/m...getes/t_10.jsp

P.S. La Ramblas is a very long street. Which hotel are you thinking of booking? It may be more convenient to book a hotel near Placa Catalunya. In addition, many hotels that are located ON La Ramblas can be quite noisy...

Thanks YK. I will try to book the hotel near Placa Catalunya. Can you suggest one good hotel for the charge between Euros 60-80 per night for a double room for two persons? Can T-10 ticket be shared by two persons at a time and on which zone/zones this is valid? If I stay near Placa Catalunya, are not all the important tourist spots at walking distance? Where will we need to use public transport? Also please suggest good places which can be covered in two days.

I just returned from Barcelona last week and am working on my trip report which I hope to post in the next week or two. The T-10 pass yk mentions is €7,85 and includes 10 rides, two people just both swipe it and two rides are deducted. The metro is clean and easy to use. If you stay near Placa Catalunya you can walk to most things. Park Guell, Montjuic and perhaps Sagrada Familia would require metro rides. We walked to everything else.

We stayed at Hotel Cortes, Santa Anna, 25 www.hotelcortes.com/ We reserved it through venere.com cause their website in English didn't work very well. Highly recommend this hotel for location and value. We got a prepaid price of 72€ for a double through Venere. It was very clean, extremely large rooms and bathrooms, especially for a European city center hotel. Due to our itinerary and fact that one night there were three of us, we ended up staying in three different rooms (two doubles and a triple) and all were equally clean and spacious. Great showers. TV, Lift, free wi-fi that worked great. The location is superb – on a mostly pedestrian street literally a two minute walk from Placa Catalunya (aerobus drop off) and also from Las Ramblas – but much quieter than either. The breakfast was free but was pretty basic – 1 cup coffee, oj, and three sort of dry pastries, a slice of cheese. But for the price it was still an excellent deal even if you didn’t like the breakfast. Nice common areas and pleasant staff.

On a previous trip I stayed at Hotel Continental which is around the corner right on Las Ramblas. It was not noisy and had a fabulous free breakfast that was available all day long. But it's about 25€ more per night.

Just to stress this again, the T-10 can be shared by more than one person. If you take 2 rides per day per person for 2 days, that will use 8 rides out of the T-10 ticket.

Just to clarify, if you buy a single ticket for each ride you take, it costs 1,40 euro (vs 0,785 euro using the T-10 ticket). Therefore, even if you only use 6 rides out of the T-10 ticket, you're still saving money over buying individual tickets.

The bus from Girona Airport will terminate at bus terminal Estacio de Nord, near metro Arc de Triomf.
While it's just 2 stops with the metro to Pl. Catalunya from there, the metro station Arc de Triomf is currently undergoing major renovations, which makes it difficult to navigate with heavy luggage.
You can catch a taxi in front of the bus terminus instead, and get to Pl Catalunya for very little money (€ 5-6, w/o luggage surcharges).

Can we purchase the T-10 ticket online before the date of departure? I tried to look for it on the TMB Website mentioned in YK's response, but could find it.

No need to. Just stop at the ticket machines in all the metro stations. It's just like buying a single ticket only you choose the T-10 instead of single ride. Very easy to do.
