Transport from Siena To Rome

We have a car rental during our Siena/Tuscany time- but returning it 2 days before we move on from Siena to Rome. Looking for transport from Siena to Rome June 24, 6 people. searched Rome2Rio and found trains seems to offer limited options, I saw the Flixbus offering the quickest time, but does not pick up or drop off in walking distance to either apartment. The trains have changes and are lengthy.

Keeping the rental car is for 2 additional days and the $400 charge to drop in different location increase the rental from $500 to $1100! Yikes!!
What suggestions do you have?
thank you

Rome2Rio is not an official source, it's a third party that tries to do too many things.
On the English version of trenitalia.com you must put a day of travel before June 15 to see the full schedules. Railway schedules are updated twice an year all over Europe, in June and December.
Pick a departure time in the early morning from the drop down menu, otherwise trenitalia.com defaults to the time on your system.
The 2 furthest tracks at Florence SMN station are 250 meters away, not exactly a lengthy trek.
Buses to Rome depart from the top of the hill in Siena, whereas the railway station is in the "modern" district of the town. The downside is that these buses call at Roma Tiburtina bus depot and not in the city center. In short, Where are you staying in Siena and Rome?

You may connect both ends of the bus ride from/to your apartments by taxi.

Two taxis for 6 people. And they are not expensive.

You can take a local train from Siena to Rome with a change at Chiusi-Chianciano. There is Tiemme bus (but only twice a day) from Siena to Rome's airport Fiuimcino which picks up at Piazza Gramsci or Siena train station. You could get off at the train station stop in Grosseto and switch to a fast train to Rome Termini. Or take it on to the airport and switch to the Leonardo Express or taxi to Rome.

In the past, I've taken a bus (not Flix) from Rome Tiburtina to Siena and I've also taken the local trains changing at Chiusi-Chianciano. Neither was difficult, but the bus was a bit less hassle as your luggage goes under the bus and you don't have to worry about it or changing anywhere. That bus took about 3 hours. I took the subway to Tiburtina to catch the bus.
