Transport from Nuremburg to Munich

We are taking a Viking Cruise that ends in Nuremburg. We want to spend a few days in Munich. What is the best way to get from Nuremburg to Munich with luggage? Is there a bus, train, or other transport? Or is it best to hire a private taxi? We prefer to travel within a reasonable cost, but are willing to spend if necessary.

What do you think? This is Europe!
There is of course an excellent rail connection. Consult the timetable of the Deutsche Bahn: www.bahn.de/p_en/view/index.shtml
Advance buying of the tickets gives considerable discount.

You can also use the dirt-cheap Bavarian ticket to go between Munich and Nurnberg but you must take regional trains only and spend about an hour or so longer but about 35 euros total for two people.

check www.bahn.de/en like tonfromliedien says for discounted tickets on express trains - could be as low as 29 euros but those tickets are non-changeable from the specific train you book them on.

www.bahn.de is a wonderful site for train info - check www.seat61.com for advice on discounted tickets; for general info www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

You can always buy walk-up tickets and get on trains IME - do not worry about that.

Yep. A Bayernticket will get you there no problem. There is a reasonably fast RE that you can take that only stops a new times between Nuremberg and Munich.

Bavarian Tickets can be bought at any train station - no need to advance order, etc and then take any regional train -just hop on- also valid on urban transports.

The train station is right outside the city walls also. Look for the dunkin donuts, the tunnel is right after and you enter there. We always take the cheap train, not bad, you will pass by the town they make audi cars and see all the freight trains loaded with new autos.

You'll also pass the fields of hops, which depending on the time of year may or may not be impressive.

Bavarian Passes also come in first class at not all that much more and IME first class is much more roomy - lots of empty seats usually whereas 2nd class can always be crowded as these are commuter trains largely.
