Transport from Malpensa,Milan to Milano centrale.

Hi, We will arriving in Malpensa - Milan on 22/04/2011 and wish to travel to Milan Centrale to get to Monterosso.
It would seem it is quite a distance and going by rail requires us to change trains.I have found a bus shuttle on the net which is free and leaves every 20 mins, 24 hours a day. Has anyone used this service and if so - how was it? We will be travelling with children.

Cheers Pawsha

We used the service about 5 years ago. It worked but, as I recall, it took quite a while.

There is a shuttle bus, but it's not free.

There are also direct non-stop trains from Malpensa to Centrale, but only a couple of times a day (13€). There are other trains to Centrale that don't require a change, but they make stops (about one train per hour). On Trenitalia, list Malpensa as your start and Milan. You only want to look at trains that go to MI C. LE, not MI N.CA (Milan Cadorna station).

There are trains from Milan to Monterosso that don't require changes also. For any searches on Trenitalia, enter a date within the next 7 days for all trains/prices to show.

There is an airport shuttle bus direct to Milano Centrale Station, every 15 minutes or so, takes about an hour and costs a few euro.

Thanks folks for your replies. The shuttle bus that Sampaguita mentioned sounds like what I am looking for. Do you just take "pot Luck" or do you book?

We walked with our luggage from the baggage claim to the outside curb and the shuttle bus to Milano Centrale was right there, as one fills up the next one comes in. No need to reserve, it is 8 Euros/pp; just make sure to arrive in Milan with at least that amount. Could not have been easier. Once at Milano centrale connect with Monterosso. Milano Centrale is a beautiful train station.

"Milano Centrale is a beautiful train station" BUT, as with all major train stations world wide, keep your wits on and possessions tight to prevent petty thieves from spoiling the arrival of your vacation. Not that Milan is worse then any other station, but normal caution is smart when travelling.
