Transport from Krakow to Prague
Any advice on the best way to get from Krakow to Prague? The research I have done so far shows a car is 6 hours, a train about the same, and flying would also take some time as there are no direct flights (at least that I have found). Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

We took the overnight train. Not for everyone but it has its advantages.

Check again - the train routes are circuitous because they go around mountainous terrain. I've never seen a train route advertised that was less than about 8 hours. Buses are actually faster because the roads are more direct (the drive in a car is about 5+ hours).

There's a sleeper train and a daytime train with bistro car, see https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-ro...w-by-train.htm
Buy at the station (cheapest) or pre-arrange through reliable agency www.polrail.com - it cannot be booked online in this direction. |
I took a train but given the time it would take, I took that opportunity to spend a couple days en route in Moravia, which I'd wanted to see anyway. I'm not into spending an entire day on a train. It is curious there are not more direct flights, I always thought.
There is, in fact, now one direct flight but it isn't every day. Ryanair flies that route, it's only about an hour flight and both airports are easy to deal with ant not far out. They only fly that route a couple days a week. So check Ryanair for different days of the week if you want to look into that. The good thing is that, unlike larger cities, both only have one airport so you don't have to worry about Ryanair leaving from an inconvenient location. In winter, they fly Thurs and Sun, it changes in April to Mon and Fridays. |
I also took the overnight train and booked a private sleeper car. No, it's not for everyone, but I was with a friend and we had fun.

Thanks, I checked and that flight is available on the day we would need it, and only 100 USD. That may be the winner, thank you for pointing that out. I thought the overnight train also sounded fun, but I think the flight will be cheaper and faster.

Do the flight.

If you have not flown Ryanair before, be sure to read ALL the terms of booking.

overnight train sounded fun - not for some folks - especially those light sleepers.
