Transit help: VCE to (which?) Train Station

Flying into VCE, immediately taking a train to Florence. After staying in Florence, we will take a train to Venice, then stay in Venice (near San Marco) and finally fly home from VCE.

1) Which Venice train station should we depart from to go to Florence?

2) What is best transit option from VCE to train station selected above?

3) Do we need to arrive back at the same train station if we get RT tickets? If you return to a different station is it still "round trip" and priced accordingly?

4) What is best transit option from Venice back to VCE (alilaguna or actv)?

ekscrunchy,

Excuse my confusing OP. Was your #3 answer for 3a or 3b?

Sorry. It does not matter which station you access in a city; the ticket is the same so 3a is No and 3b is yes!!

Italian rail ticket offer no advantage for round trip. it's the same price coming and going, depending on the kind of train and the class you choose.

The Venezia Mestre station is on the mainland while the Venezia SL (Santa Lucia) station is on the island.

For your trip to Florence, there is no reason to go all the way into Venice proper. Many longer distance trains begin in Mestre.

For your return Florence-Venice, you will want a ticket to Venezia SL. You might have to change trains in Mestre to get all the way there. There are frequent trains between Venice SL and Mestre.

Oh, to answer 4, to me it would depend on where I was staying. if I was staying close to the train station, I'd opt for the bus. If I was at the San Marco end, I'd opt for boat, since I,d have to spend a bit of time to reach the bus.
