transfers from Madrid airport to train station
My son will be flying from Paris to meet us in Seville. The only direct flight on that day would get him at 9 PM, so we thought it may make sense for him to fly to Madrid earlier and then take the AVE train down to Seville. What is the easiest/quickest way to transfer from the airport to the train station? About how long does this take? Should he order his train ticket in advance -- can that be done online? And finally, if he does order a train ticket and misses the time, will they apply that to a later ticket?
Thanks for any info!

Have you checked on the option of booking a flight from Paris to Sevilla, via Madrid? Iberia lists a flight that starts at around $320 USD for a round trip. The flight number is IB 3445 to Madrid from Paris, arriving at 21:15 (9:15 pm). The connecting flight arrives in Sevilla at 23:10 (11:10 pm).
The last AVE departs Madrid's Atocha station at 23:00 (11 pm) arriving in Sevilla at 01:30 (am). He should be able to catch the last AVE if he took a taxi from the airport to Atocha station (usually under 30 minutes).
You should purchase the train ticket in advance, but I am not sure that the Renfe office in Terminal 1 will be open that late at night. If it's not, then he will have to pick up the ticket when he reaches Atocha station, and hopefully he speaks a little Spanish.

The quickest and easiest way to make the transfer is by taxi, but it's pretty expensive. It cost me almost 30E to get from my hotel to the airport for my flight out.
When I came in, I took the metro. There is a station at the airport and costs only 1E to ride. There were several transfers, though, and I wouldn't want to do it with a lot of luggage (I had only carry-on luggage). I think it took me 45 minutes to an hour to make the trip.

Thanks for the info! I've seen other posts that talk about long lines at the train station to pick up reserved tickets. Does anyone know what happens if a connection to a reserved train time is missed? Can it be used for the next train?
