Transfer time with baggage at Firenze Rifredi (FI.RIFR)
I am looking at taking IC trains from Firenze Rifredi (FI.RIFR) station.
I will be traveling with baggage that i can manage to stroll through, keeping this in mind how much time should i keep as buffer for making a transfer from Regional train to IC train in FI.RIFR. How far is the terminal from regional train track to IC train track? Is 30 mins considered good enough for getting down from a regional train and then find the track for IC train (hoping that tickets are purchased beforehand)? Thanks |
I don't think there are "IC" and "Regional" tracks at the Italian train stations; there are just tracks and your train will arrive at one and the IC will depart from another, perhaps an adjacent track if you're lucky.
I passed through Rifredi a couple of weeks ago (changed at Florence SMN from Venice to Pisa). Don't think the station is that big. 30 minutes to change should be plenty of time; at worst, you'll have to cart you bags down some steps and under the tracks and upstairs to the correct track number, probably a short distance. Some of the stations have elevators as well. |
Agree with Andrew. Small station and 30 mins is more than adequate.

In many smaller stations, to access another track, you have to go under the tracks. There will be stairs going down and signs underground which stairs to take up to the other track. Remember you must validate tickets for R trains.

If your train arrives at Rifredi perfectly on time, all you need to connect is 5 minutes. It's a relatively small station.

I've switched trains at Rifredi. You usually need to walk down a fairly short flight of stairs from platform where you arrived to a short passageway, and then back up another flight stairs to your new track, which only takes some muscle when you have luggage and a short pause to double check on the boards that you are headed for the right track. No need to run. Don't be afraid to ask other people for confirmation you are headed in the right direction. Italians do it all the time.

thanks everyone.
