If you divide the land area by the number of inhabitants, then yes we all have acres (although please exclude privately owned farms, woods, etc, which are fenced off and inaccessible to the public, which is most of the open space in Norfolk). But we don't occupy those, do we. We cram into cities and towns, small offices, narrow streets, and overcrowded public transport. We all need privacy and private time. For some the only chance of that is to maintain the illusion of personal space whilst going about our daily business. I may be only 2 feet away from you, but this is my space and you aren't welcome unless invited.
