Transfer from Rome to Positano
Hi
There will be 4 of us travelling from Rome (Fiumicino)to Positano in September 06. Having read other Fodor's info would like some more advice. We can have car and driver for 360 euro would the train be cheaper? If train option is cheaper does any one know the approx cost of tickets and how do we make the reservation.I can only find time tables on web sites. From comments I have read I am not sure if it would be best to go by train to Naples or Salerno and then we would get a taxi to Positano. This is my first enquiry so I hope some one can help. Tour |
Taking the train will be cheaper, but there is a considerable distance from the last train station to Positano, so the taxi will cost you something.
What about renting a car? The Amalfi coast is among the world's most spectacular coasts, and a scenic drive along the coast is a must. By the way, the terrain around Positano is so steep that walking will be very hard. Without a car, you depend on buses or you can take the boat (which is quite recommendable). |
Unless you're a fearless driver, I would suggest taking the train and then hiring a driver to take you to Positano. The Amalfi Coast drive is not for the fainthearted.

Hi t,
Train schedules, price and tickets are at www.trenitalia.com. You can buy tickets up to 60 days in advance. You can get to Positano by A. Train to Naples (about 90E for 4), private limo to your hotel (about 100E). B. Train to Salerno (100E), ferry to Positano (the ferry docks are about 3 blks from the train station) for about 45E. The ferry ride along the coast is quite beautiful. For Ferry schedules Positano – Amalfi - Salerno (P.zza della Concordia): See http://www.salernocity.com/comune/tr...i/costiera.asp ((I)) |
We took the train from Rome to Naples, the Circumvesuvia train from Naples to Sorrento and then the bus from Sorrento to Positano. Going home we took the ferry from Positano to Naples and the train from Naples to Rome.

T - Alternatively the cheapest option is bus from Rome to Positano.
This runs once daily June-Sept, departing Rome at 07.00 (- from Tiburtina station). Fare: € 18.50 per person Journey time: approx 4.5 hrs. The operator is Marozzi www.marozzivt.it Hope this helps ... Steve P.S. Hey Ira - What's 45E ? The Salerno-Positano ferry ride was €6 last summer ... |
