transfer from Eurostar to London hotel
 

Hello our family of four (2 children aged 11 and 8) will be arriving in London from Paris by Eurostar at 10am 23rd June. Our Hotel is Premier Inn County Hall close to Waterloo station. We will probably have two large bags and 2 carry on. We were wondering if you would advise us using the tube to get to our hotel or perhaps due to our luggage a taxi or transfer service? Are there a lot of taxis outside St Pancras? Any advice would be great. Thanks

there are tons of taxis always waiting at the Eurostar St Pancras International exit and probably the best way to go - transfer services are mainly I think for airports but in central London a taxi may be cheaper. Tube would be a complete hassle, especially if as oft the case it is crowded and if you have to change tubes even more a potential nightmare.

Tons -- St Pancras/Kings Cross is a major transport hub. You may have to wait in the queue a few minutes since lost of Eurostar passengers catch cabs.

The Tube isn't bad but a bit of a slog at both ends.

The Tube could be a nightmare as you have to change in central London and that could mean a longish walk - not sure - going up and down steps and mobs scenes unbelievable depending on the time of day - a direct bus from King's X if exists would be better than the Tube IME - if no change was involved it would be different perhaps and looking at Tube map it seems a change of tubes is mandated to get to Waterloo station.

You could buy a Travel Card for central London however and from King's Cross - adjoining St Pancras take a train - a proper train with more room for luggage to London Bridge then change there to a train to Waterloo-East - that depending on whether it was rush hours or not be fairly simple - the change in London Bridge does require going up and down steps but not a long hike.

Just take a taxi, it's the easiest thing to do. You'll get a first look of London from your taxi, rather than being underground schlepping luggage.

Can't beat the top deck of a double-decker bus for views of London - infinitely better than an taxi, which is of course infinitely better than the Tube.

If one walks from St Pancras to Euston station (about 10 minutes) there are no transfers. Northern line straight shot to Waterloo. (or one could take the tube one stop but w/ the walking underground and waiting for the next train walking is probably just as fast and a bit easier)

But a cab to Waterloo would be much easier since you'll have large luggage

(Your kids are old enough to handle their own suitcases - there shouldn't be a need for any super 'large' bags. )

While I am a fan of saving money, sometimes taking a cab makes life easier.

Taxi only. With all that luggage and 2 kids there is no way I would drag everything/everyone through the tube. (We take it all the time in London, but many stations have only escalators - fast - and flights of stairs to the street as well.)

Get a taxi. Don't even think of taking a tube which will involve changing at Euston, Leicester Sq or even London Bridge - all nightmare transits especially with luggage and kids.
