transfer civitavecchia dock post cruise to Rome airport

What is the most economical way to transfer from ship to Rome airport, 4 people traveling with suitcases? Should this be booked ahead?

Zerlina Apr 20th, 2011 05:21 AM

The most economical is by train, the FR5 to Roma Trastevere, changing to the FR1 to Fiumicino, presuming that that's the airport you mean.

P.S. It doesn't need to be booked ahead.

I've done it several times, and each time I rented a car at the train station and had a leisurely drive to FCO. Very inexpensive for a one day rental (I used Hertz), and no problem lugging luggage.

We used Romecabs.com for our transfers. Stefano and all of his drivers are wonderful, and we're using them again next year! :)

Hi G,

We used http://www.airportshuttle.it/rates.htm

Don't be upset if they operate with a sense of Italian time. They will get you there with time to spare.

I think Zerlina has given you the most economical option. Traveling by train to Roma Trastevere is €4.10. Then, it's €8 to head out to FCO. So that's about €12.10 per person to travel by train. I don't think you can get near that price with a rental car (add in gas and an IDP), taxi, or private shuttle. As also noted by Zerlina, these are regionale trains with open seating and thus no RESERVATIONS required! You might look at the bottom of this article for info on *getting to Civitavecchia* by train: http://tinyurl.com/civitavecchia
