Who among the Fodorites has traveled the Trans Siberian Express from Moscow to Vladivostok?
I have tentitive plans to do so next year.
I'd appreciate any personal reviews of your trip, pro or con.

Try

www.LonelyPlanet.com

specifically the Thorn Tree for Central/Eastern Europe. There are some regulars who have taken the TS (I've only taken it from Ulan-Ude to Irkutsk). There are now two books on it, the Lonely Planet Guide to the Trans-Siberian and the Trailblazer Trans-Siberian Handbook.

I thought of taking it Moscow-Irkutsk but decided to fly instead, both because I was tight on time and also because of the lack of good service on the train--it is definately "adventure" travel.

I did the trip a couple of years ago from Beijing to Moscow with a stop in Irkutsk. The trains that I was on were comfortable. Have a look at monkeyshrine.com or waytorussia.net for more information. The stop in Irkutsk is worth doing.
