Trains or buses to other places from Costa del Sol

We are staying in Torremolinas for 2 weeks (Unfortunately AFTER I read the forums), as a base to visit other areas and need advice on Train travel versus bus travel. So far we have, Rhonda, Nerja, Mijas, Seville and Granada are on our list of places to visit. thx

I recommend taking the bus. Trains in the south are not well linked to other southern towns. The bus is more direct and has less stops. I know the bus from Mijas to Granada takes apprx. 3 hours and you'll need to get it in Fuengirola. Are you going to Sevilla from Torremolinos for the day or are you staying in Sevilla? The only reason I ask is because it would be a painfully long trip for a day.

Pat, there is an excellent local train every half hour into Malaga, which must be one of the most underated cities in Spain. Although a lively city there few tourists, it has charming medieval streets, lots of little cafes with good food, and a splendid Muslim fortress/palace.

The Rock of Gibraltar is another suggestion. It is quite a sight from the road, although the city was (IMHO) a bit dissapointing.

When are you going? As far as transportation, Bus between closer destination sis the ticket; train for Granada, Seville, and Nerja. I do have to say, however, that Andalucia is much better done by car. You'll see why. We did noticed, however, a tremendous amount of German and British senior tourists. It appears that, as a result, hotels are very well prepared with day trips info and suggestions for tranportation.

You'll love Ronda. Agree with above poster; Seville is too much for a day trip from Torremolinos. An overnight (at a minimum) may be a much better choice.

Thanks to everyone for the advice, I think you're right - a day trip to Seville will be too much so we'll spend the night. Any suggestions on mid range accomodation centrally located? We're going the last week of April and first week of May. We might rent a car as well but will likely do it there. thx
