trains in Italy

We are traveling to Italy in May and mostly we will be taking day trips from Florence and Genoa. I think I have determined that a Eurail pass would not be economical for our 2-week trip. But I cannot get prices to show up on the Trenitalia Web site. Can anyone give me estimates on prices for the tentative itinerary below? The Trenitalia schedule includes a range of options from IC Plus to Regional to ES Star to the Swiss option.

Milano to Firenze - ES Star
Firenze to Fiesole - local bus
Firenze to Pisa - R
Pisa to Genova - IC
Genova to Monte Carlo (Monaco) - EC
Genova to Cinque Terre area
Genova to Lugano Switzerland - EC
Lugano back to airport Malpensa

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Travel_novice,
You have to proceed as if you’re going to buy the tickets. After putting the dates and times you want to travel, press “send”. Click on the shopping cart in the “Buy” column for the schedule you wish. On the next screen select your fare (you should choose standard) then number of passengers, click “add’ and it will display the prices for 1st and 2nd class. By the way, it will not display prices more than 60 days away, but you can get an idea by putting in earlier dates that correspond to the days of the week you want to travel.

Hope this is at least somewhat clear.
