trains Hamburg Copenhagen?
As im not from Europe, it seems I can't book train tickets online.. am I safe to just go to the station from the airport in HAMBURG and get a train to COPENHAGEN? on a Friday - in 2 week's time??
|
I just checked www.bahn.de, and you can buy tickets online there for travel on 6/29. Discount rates are available for several trains, at 32.5EUR, compared to full fare of 76.9EUR.
That's a very significant saving. |
BTW, I had no problem purchasing tickets and reservations on www.bahn.de before, and print them out myself. And I live in the US with US-issued credit cards.
|
I have also set up an account on Die Bahn and ordered tickets which I paid for with my Capital One card. I printed the tickets myself.
Just make sure you show the same credit card to the conductor who punches your ticket. He checks your credit card, not your passport. |
Thanks for your responses.. but every train I want gives this message: Kein Internetverkauf möglich!! What are my chances to get on the ferry train without prebooking - to reach Copenhagen from Hamburg - oops! in one week 22nd! (option of a flight is open but then you dont see much of the area)
|
Because those trains take the ferry route thay are relatively short...usually about four cars or so.
I cannot say that you will be able to get a seat but there is more than one train a day. |
Hi D,
>every train I want gives this message:... Are you trying to buy more than 60 days out? ((I)) |
I have taken that train maybe five times and purchased it at Hamburger Hauptbahnhof before boarding. I have personally never had a problem.
|
I believe only first class carriages go on the ferry - 2nd class passengers get off the train and ride on the ferry and then scurry for seats on other train carriages waiting on the Danish side that are then attached to the first class cars. I may be wrong but that was the case last time i took it.
Only Berlin-Copenhagen overnight trains take the longer bridge/tunnel route without a ferry link. |
>What are my chances to get on the ferry train without prebooking - to reach Copenhagen from Hamburg - oops!
100%. But your chances to get the cheaper, discounted tickets when you buy here are 0%. You will just have to pay the full rate. That one with 1st/2nd class is not true - the difference is that a majority of 1st class travellers are on business expenses and use the time to work or doze off, while many 2nd class people just enjoy the ride - and it is much more enjoyable on the deck than sitting in the belly of a ship. |
<That one with 1st/2nd class is not true>
so the whole train goes on as i would expect - the train i was on was the overnight train come to think of it before it took the new route and was early in am - second class seated cars definitely did not go on the train. haven't taken day train in while but thought may have been same. |
The overnight trains do not use the ferry route but rather the route via Flensburg
I can assure you the ENTIRE train goes on the ferry and the last time I took it almost everyone, both FC and SC passengers got off and went above for the 45-minute crossing |
The whole train goes on the ferry.
|
the whole train goes on the ferry but i believe they may add cars waiting on the Danish side - point being if you're in a mobbed 2nd class car you may see if empty ones are being added.
|
The three times I have taken the train no cars were added but that doesn't mean it never happens.
