trains between Rome and Lucca in Italy

1) Is it possible to travel by a fast train from Rome to Lucca?

2) How long does it take?

3) If travelling by car how long does it take? What is the distance?

We travelled recently between Rome and Lucca by train, but had stops in between at Orvieto and San Gimignano. The best thing to do is check on the official Italian train site www.fs-on-line.com , key in Roma and Lucca and it will give you the different options and travel times, including if there is a Eurostar which is the fastest train. IC is the next fastest followed by regional trains. I imagine travelling by train would be a lot quicker than by car but if you have a car you can stop when and where you want. We found train travel easy and cheap.
Kay

Hello Varsha,

There's no DIRECT fast train to Lucca.
You can take the EUROSTAR to Florence, then catch a Florence-Lucca train from there.

This is the quickest route by train.
Your journey time Rome-Lucca by this route is approx 3hours 15-30mins.

I'm not sure how long it would take by car - perhaps someone else can help you on this.

Steve

You can also take a train to Pisa directly from Rome. From Pisa it's about 1/2 hour on the train to Lucca

Lucca is on the train line connecting Florence and Pisa
